About the organization:
The main responsibility of the Staff Selection Commission is to make recruitment to Group C (non-technical) & Group B (non-gazette- both technical & non-technical) posts in departments of Government of India, its attached & subordinate offices except those for which recruitment is made by the Railway Recruitment Boards & Industrial Establishments. The Staff Selection Commission is also assigned the task of conducting Departmental Examinations for Promotion from Group D to LDC Grade, Promotion from LDC to UDC Grade and Promotion from Stenographers Grade D to Stenographers Grade C besides holding Periodical Typewriting Tests in English & Hindi. The Staff Selection Commission has a nationwide network of 9 Regional/Sub-regional Offices located at New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Guwahati, Kolkata, Mumbai, Allahabad & Sub-regional offices located at Chandigarh & Raipur. Main responsibilities of Staff Selection Commission’s Regional/Sub-regional Offices include, inter alia, implementing the policies & programmes of the Commission, supervising & overseeing its field operations, liaisoning & establishing rapport with State Governments & their Departments, making arrangements for impartial & smooth conduct of examinations, assisting Interview Boards & servicing the Examination Centres within their area of jurisdiction. We are working hard to finalise the results of examinations conducted in 2007 and 2008. Results of three major examinations have been declared in June 2009 and current month, about 3600 candidates emerging successful and now assured of jobs in the Central Government. We are hopeful of finalizing the results of written part of Combined Matric Level Examination-2008 in the next few days and final results of Section Officer(Audit) Examination-2008 by the middle of August, 2009. Physical Endurance Test and Medical Examination of candidates of Sub-Inspectors in Central Police Organisations Examination-2008 is being held across the country for thousands of candidates, requiring challenging logistics. Regional Directors of the Commission are coping with tremendous pressure on their human resources and yet endeavouring to meet my target of completing nomination of selected candidates within a month of declaration of results of each examination. With two major examinations involving about five lakh candidates coming up in the next two months – Data Entry Operator Examination-2009 and CPOs Sub Inspectors’ Examintion-2009, the pressure on the Commission is enormous. Yet with the willing co-operation of my colleagues in the Commission, we have agreed to undertake Special Recruitments in the North East and Jammu and Kashmir for offices under the Registrar General of India and Comptroller and Auditor General. We have also agreed to assist Andaman and Nicobar Administration in recruiting Lower Grade Clerks in substantial numbers.
