UPSC to conduct Combined Defence Services Exam in Feb

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold the Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination (I) on February 13, 2011, which is a Sunday, across 41 centers in India. Students have been sent their admission certificates. Letters of rejection have also been delivered to the students who couldn’t qualify for this test. The letters include the reason of their non-selection.
In case of non receipt of the Admission Certificate or the Rejection Letter, applicants can get in touch with the UPSC Facilitation Counter via telephone during office hours. The telephone numbers are 011-23387402, 011-23381125, 011-23098543 and 011-23385271. Aspirants can also fax their queries on number 011-23387310.

CDS Examinations 2011 will be held for admission to Indian Military Academy Dehradun (250 seats), Indian Naval Academy Ezhimala (40 seats), Air force Academy Hyderabad (32 Seats) and Officers’ Training Academy Chennai (175 seats for men & 25 seats for women).

The Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination (I) will have two test modes such as offline and online. The online applications will be accepted up to 10th May 2011 till 11.59 PM. Offline application forms can be sent by speed post, ordinary post or courier on or prior to 17th May 2011 till 5 PM only. One can also submit it in person.

The CDS Examination centers are located all over India including Panaji (Goa), Port Blair, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Dharwad, Dispur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Thiruvanathapuram, Tirupati, Udaipur, Vishakhapatnam and Assam. Sikkim, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Island, Jammu & Kashmir, Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kochi, Jorhat and Kohima are the other centers.

Candidates aspiring to appear for this competitive exam in India need to meet certain eligibility criteria. Only Indian citizens or subjects of Bhutan or Nepal can apply for this test. A refugee from Tibet who has come to India prior to 1st January, 1962 and wants to settle down in this country for good is also eligible. Besides, candidates of Indian origin from countries such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, the United Republic of Tanzania, and Ethiopia or Vietnam can also send their application. However, they must be willing to settle down in the country for good.

Unmarried male candidates applying for IMA should not be born before 2nd January, 1988 or after 1st January, 1993. Unmarried male candidates seeking admission in Naval Academy should not be born before 2nd January, 1990 or after 1st January, 1993. For unmarried male candidates seeking admission to Air Force Academy, the age limit is that they should not be born before 2nd January, 1989 and after 1st January, 1993. Married or unmarried male candidates looking for admission to Officers Training Academy should not be born before 2nd January, 1987 and after 1st January, 1993.

As per educational qualification is concerned, candidates again need to meet the mentioned parameters. Students looking for admission to I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy need to have a degree from a recognized university. Candidates interested in Indian Naval Academy should hold engineering degree, while students going for Air Force Academy need to have a degree from a recognized university with subjects like mathematics and physics at 10+2 or engineering degree.
